1960 Ceylon becomes a Member of the United Nations Security Council

Ceylon was elected as a member of the United Nations Security Council in 1960. The presidency of the Council is held by each of the members in turn for one month, and Sir Claude Corea became the first ever President of the United Nations Security Council from Ceylon in May 1960.
