2005 Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Sri Lanka

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) established a Sri Lanka Country Office in early 2005, with seven field offices located across the country to support coordination and information management. The Colombo office supported the Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator and assisted the work of the Special Envoy for Tsunami Recovery.

Since its establishment, OCHA Sri Lanka has provided continuous support to the Government in emergency response and preparedness at central and field levels for nearly ten years. With the improvement of the humanitarian situation, in 2011, OCHA commenced transitioning its operation as a Country Office by transferring the emergency coordination responsibilities to the OCHA Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific by the end of 2014. A two-member Humanitarian Advisory Team will remain with the Resident Coordinator’s Office to support the transition.
