1997 Sri Lanka for International Law and Justice

Sri Lanka has made a valuable contribution to International Law, especially through the contributions of Judge C. G. Weeramantry. Judge Weeramantry presided as Vice-President over several important cases before the International Court of Justice, including a case on the illegality of the use and threatened use of nuclear weapons. Dr Rohan Perera chairs the Ad Hoc Committee on International Terrorism. Under his chairmanship, the Committee adopted, by consensus, the text of a draft international convention for the suppression of acts of nuclear terrorism. Dr Perera continues to serve as an active member of the International Law Commission.
