2001 The United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS in Sri Lanka

The United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), came to Colombo, Sri Lanka as a focal point in 1996. By 2001 UNAIDS had established its first local office in the country. UNAIDS focuses on ending the HIV epidemic in Sri Lanka. The main focus is reaching the zero goal ideals - 90% diagnosed, 90% on treatment, and 90% virally suppressed, to achieve Zero new infections, Zero Aids related deaths, and Zero discrimination - by 2030, through the fast track approach. Currently, UNAIDS aims to encourage testing, support equal rights, and prevent infections in newborns.
