1956 Ceylon’s Representative to the United Nations presents credentials
Sir Senerat Gunewardene was an active politician in Ceylon for thirty years before he entered the diplomatic service. In 1952, he was appointed Ceylon's first Minister to Italy, and the following year he became Ambassador to the United States, a position he occupied concurrently with his post at the United Nations. He served as the Government's observer to the 1955 session of the United Nations General Assembly.
