2005 Sri Lanka and Children and Armed Conflict
Sri Lanka played a key role in the issue of Children and Armed Conflict in the World Summit Outcome Document of 2005. In the same year, the Security Council authorized the establishment of a monitoring and reporting mechanism at the field level, and created the Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict.
In 2006, the then Secretary-General Kofi Annan, appointed Dr Radhika Coomaraswamy as Under-Secretary-General, Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict. Her term ended in 2012. In 2012, The Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict adopted the draft conclusion on the situation in Sri Lanka. It was decided that Children and Armed Conflict was no longer an issue.
