1969 United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Sri Lanka

Since the establishment of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in 1969, the agency has been working with the Government of Sri Lanka to expand the possibilities for women and young people to lead healthy sexual and reproductive lives.

With Sri Lanka’s exemplary progress in reproductive health care with the lowest maternal death rate in South Asia, UNFPA’s work in Sri Lanka has transcended to the power of the people. UNFPA is now working towards advancing equity, accountability and quality in all spheres of decision-making, affecting the lives and potential of the Sri Lankan population, with women and young people as the agency's main actors and beneficiaries of its interventions.
