The Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2), jointly organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), will take place at the FAO Headquarters in Rome, from 19-21 November 2014. This will be the first global intergovernmental conference to address the world’s nutrition problems in the 21st century.
GENEVA (7 November 2014) – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein on Friday criticized the continuing attacks by the Sri Lankan Government on the integrity of the UN Human Rights Office’s ongoing investigation into alleged grave human rights violations and abuses in Sri Lanka, and condemned the intimidation of human rights defenders and individuals who may wish to cooperate with the investigation.

In marking the 69th United Nations Day, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to empowering the marginalized and vulnerable. With less than 500 days until the 2015 end date for the Millennium Development Goals, he also noted in his message that the UN MDGs have inspired the most successful anti-poverty campaign ever.
Mr. Hiroyuki Konuma, FAO Assistant Director-General (ADG)/ Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific visited Sri Lanka from 8 – 10 July 2014. Mr. Konuma, accompanied by Ms. Beth Crawford, FAO Representative for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, visited FAO programmes in the Kilinochchi District in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka.

COLOMBO, 21 March 2014 – Almost four years after the world met the global target set in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for safe drinking water, and after the UN General Assembly declared that water was a human right, the key issue now, according to UNICEF is how can efforts be strengthened to ensure safe water for all Sri Lankans.
