With support from the Youth Employment Project (ILO/Japan), the District of Ratnapura recently undertook a new job bazaar. The event brought together a) young job seekers, b) employers and c) training providers. Some 560 youth took part.
Youth benefitted from interacting with 10 employers, 8 vocational training providers and 2 foreign employment agencies. From their booths employers solicited 540 vacancies, conducted 501 on-the-spot job interviews, called 68 job seekers for more thorough interviews and as a consequence filled 334 vacancies through immediate recruitment. In addition, the foreign employment agencies solicited employment abroad for 95 youth. The vocational training providers provided vocational guidance and advice and signed up youth for training – a total of 462 youth benefitted from this aspect of the bazaar. Some 250 youth were registered with JobsNet.
The job bazaar was planned and implemented by the District Secretariat of the District of Ratnapura with technical assistance and support from the Youth Employment Project (ILO/Japan).
