UN Sri Lanka clarification on lead news article in the Daily Island on February 7, 2014 titled ‘UN agency arranged secret meet between US and ex-Tigers – GoSL’, available online at http://www.island.lk/index.php?page_cat=article-details&page=article-details&code_title=97363

The Office of the UN Resident Coordinator would like to share the following clarification with regard to the above news article:

“We regret to note that the title is erroneous as it is based on incorrect interpretation of institutional association between IOM and the UN.   We thank you for publishing the statement made by the Office of the Resident Coordinator.  The quotation actually reflects the UN position on the matter. We wish to  note that IOM is an independent organization and it works in partnership with diverse group of stakeholders – including the government and the UN. In that context it is important to note that IOM does not come under the purview of the UNDP Resident Representative.”
