The Sinhala and Tamil New Year symbolizes prosperity and unity, as families celebrate the dawning of a new season.
On this day, as you greet your neighbours with platters of sweets, as you enjoy meals at home and receive the love and respect of your elders – it is a reminder that Sri Lanka is a land of hospitable and hardworking people.
As we celebrate with caution and care during this season, I extend to you the best wishes of the United Nations family in Sri Lanka. May this new year overflow with peace, happiness, and prosperity for all Sri Lankans.
Hanaa Singer Hamdy
Resident Coordinator, United Nations in Sri Lanka
